Sunday Dinners

Hope everyone had a great Fathers Day! I know we did. We were at my husbands brother and his wifes beautiful home today. They have the perfect summer party house, well really the perfect anytime house, but especially nice in the summer due to their great inground pool! It was a warm one, but it was so nice just sitting out on the patio and catching up with everyone.
Across the street we noticed another party going on. And commented that it looked like they were have a nice Father's Day celebration too. Becky, my sister in law said they have Sunday Dinners every Sunday. REally I said, yep, every Sunday whoever can make it comes over around 4 and brings a dish, and everyone gets to visit and stay connected by eating dinner together, and then by 7 they head on home.
This was actually the second time in a week someone talked about Sunday dinners, last Sunday at Church our priest talked about the importance of Sunday dinners.

Now I dont know those people, and it kind of looks like a Thanksgiving dinner, but you get the idea, Right??
So right then and there I said lets DO IT!! How about 1 Sunday a month, we didnt want to get too crazy to start, lol, we will get together for dinner. Well Everyone Loved the idea! We decided on the last Sunday of the month, July and August will be at the Pool house, my brother and sister in laws, and I said I would take September and October, since I love fall decorating, and making chilis, soups and such! To be honest I have already started to think about my tablescaping, IS that wrong???

Again, not my house, but trying to give visuals!
OK, my question, do any of you host or attend Sunday Dinners?? I love the idea, and really want to hear from all of you.
I will update after our first official dinner July 26, please let me know what you think of this idea? I even wondered about inviting friends too, good idea, or not??
Hope you all have a great week, I am working tomorrow guess I better get some sleep. Dont forget to leave me a little comment, I am ashamed to say, I love them!!!
Thanks for stopping by, Sue

Sue~That sounds like a wonderful idea! And so much fun!
Next time you are at your in-laws, make sure you take your camera so we can see too!
That way we can pretend we are invited to the party! LOL
Have a good day at work tomorrow!

When my parents were alive and we all lived around each other, we had Sunday Dinners every week. They were wonderful. We always had so much fun and it was a great way for all the children to really get to know their cousins and all feel like one big family. We didn't ever invite friends, this was just family time. When jobs started causing everyone to move away the dinners stopped of course, but my mom always continued to call all of us each Sunday. Those are great memories. I hope you really enjoy yours. Time is so short and the memories are so sweet. Hugs, Marty

Sue, that sounds wonderful. We are all so spread out that it would be impossible for our family to get together, but sometimes we get together with friends on Sundays.

Loved seeing what you want to do with your tables. I think this is a great idea!

XO,

Sheila :-)

I love this idea Sue. Growing up, we ALWAYS had Sunday dinner at the grandparents. When Cait was still at home, we made a point of always having our dinner together as a family, but having everyone over for Sunday dinner fell by the wayside as the family spread out and moved away. But you know, this might cut into your reading time lol. Kathy

Oh my word girl...I grew up with Sunday dinners at my grandparents houses..all my family together at one time every week...

I think it is a fantastic idea and a tradition that should be carried on..our baby girl (Jen) has Sunday Dinners at her house after church every Sunday now (yes I know I passed the torch..I am still having a hard time with that but am loving seeing my own children blossom into little mini me's~ lol lol)

She lives a few houses down the street from us so the whole family comes by here first and we all relax a minute and talk and then we all ease down to Jen's and she has a buffet style dinner set up on her island in the kitchen...it is just the best family time and such a great bonding and quality time...I think it is wonderful that you are gonna start this with your family girl...like you say even once a month it is still a fantastic opportunity to connect and make memories..

I love doing dinners in the Fall also..the decorating is so pretty then and I loved that pic of the table with the tablescape and the little pumpkins on the plates...ohhhh I stoled...uh borrowed that pic from you girl! lol

In this day and age of so many uncertain things...I think it is a wonderful idea to try to get back to basics and get back to the real things in life that mean something and my family means everything to me...can't wait to see you post about all these beautiful memory making Sunday dinners girl...oh and there will be recipes ....right...right???? lol Have a great day my friend! ~♥~

We have dinners with family regulary. There are a lot of us though and lots of little kids, so we keep it very simple. It's just important to be together as a family and create wonderful memories. Sounds like a super idea!! Can't wait to see what you all do. Julie

I stumbled upon your blog and I love the post about Sunday dinners. My last two are in college and I try to get them home for a Sunday night dinner. Try I say and when I succeed it's always fun to share our week.

Hi Sue :)

I think that idea is great! I like that they're once a month, so that it's not too much. Oh and it's never too early to think about tablescaping! LOL

I love the idea!!! I wish my family would do that. We use to when my Grandmother was alive but then it just stopped.

I should talk to my mom about doing it again. I think inviting friends is a fantastic idea. They are part of your family too.
I can't wait to see pictures of your first offical family dinner.
